Speaking of camping/hiking trip ghost stories…

My most recent creepy event in the woods actually happened on a Sheltowee Trace hike. The trip organizer was driving us back to camp after we ate at the all-you-can-eat-buffet at Natural Bridge. There were about 18 of us in the van.

It was after dusk, it was cold and raining, and we were far out into the woods on an old gravel four-track road. We were at least two miles from anywhere. As we were nearing camp I looked out the window to see a young, blond, college aged adult male standing on the side of the road.

It was completely dark; he had no rain gear, no headlamp, and absolutely no business being out there. He was just standing, staring blankly on the side of the road in the sopping wet tree line. He did not look at our van, and his head did not swivel to follow as we passed, and did not wave to hitchhike.

He was wearing a grey cotton tee, and brown pants, and was standing as still as a post. Our driver did not see him. There were no camping spots near where we saw him, and the road was following a high-ridgeline with descending elevation on both sides.

Only four of us in the van saw him, and we all described the same thing. We all went back to camp and told the others.

One person said “That just ain’t right…there is nothing right about that. He is probably going to come get us in the night.” I have to say, at that point I couldn’t really disagree.
