Sparklies From the Walls

Sparklies From the Walls

This morning at about 6:30am my wife and I were asleep in bed. We were both awakened to hear a loud “pop” like the seal of a window being cracked, and then a scraping sound like a window being opened.

I immediately rolled over to make sure she was still in bed, who responded with a “what the hell was that?” So, I immediately grabbed under our bed, pulled out my baseball bat and ran to the noise.

What I found was completely bizarre. Our cat Bella was in the guest bedroom staring intently at the wall where a stream of red and blue sparks was cascading down from what I assumed was the power outlet. It looked like sparks from a 4th of July sparkler.

I thought to myself, “oh great, something else to fix.”

The cascade remained for at least a good two to three seconds. I turned on the light in the hallway to get a better look, and the sparks instantly vanished. Much to my surprise, there was no power outlet, only a blank wall.

The power outlet was completely on the other side of the room. So, I ran over to the window to see if maybe there were some emergency vehicles outside. Maybe it was their lights reflecting on the wall?

There were no vehicles on the street, and I didn’t hear the powerful diesel engine of either an ambulance or fire truck. There were no sirens.

I checked all the windows to make sure they hadn’t been breached. Whatever happened, my wife and I both heard an anomalous sound.

I saw something weird, and so did Bella. I can’t explain it.

My scientist friends will come up with a quantifiable and prosaic explanation. My new age friends will say I saw spirits. My practical thinkers will ask if I’ve ever had any electrical problems with the house before.

In any case it’s a strange (and a true) story, but I enjoyed telling it!
